We arrived on Fri May 11th but as it was raining heavily we just wend down the the Bridge Inn in Napton. Saturday was the real first day, with a bright start we headed for Braunston and then up the Oxford. The camera was set up and performed well, taking shots every 5 seconds. Obviously the rain meant I was fixing it inside and so there was rain on the window in the shots. I’ve edited this into a video: We stopped in Rugby to get supplies at the Tesco and take the chance to wait the rain out over a late lunch. When we set off a boat coming round the corner kept to the wrong side meaning I had to go round him and the corner, and miss all the moored boats there. |

Right, I’m due to go out tomorrow for a week. as we’re based at Calcutt we’ve always gone down to Napton Junction and then either way on the Oxford or through Braunston. So the aim this time is to do Hatton flight, so may as well do the Warwickshire Ring. The big thing is overnight stops! Obviously there’s limited places between flights and then there’s Birmingham - if we’re doing the ring via the shortest route then its a case of going through all in one day, if going the alternative then its planning the trips via Gas Street Basin. The weather doesn’t look brilliant, so a choice of stopping or continuing through the rain to keep to schedule!! |

One thing that has interested me for a while has been Time Lapse film, and it occurred to me these would be a great way of making “video diaries” of boating holidays. A video of each day at normal speed wouldn’t be really interesting (IMO) but condensing each day down to a few minutes should remain interesting enough. With this in mind I got a Ricoh R6 camera, partly because I wanted a new camera with a wider zoom range, and because it also supported “interval shooting” - that is shots automatically taken at defined time periods. So as a test I took the camera out on a run on the M62, setting it to take shots every 5 seconds. |
